Every session begins with a discussion. What state of imbalance is present? What are you seeking to alter? What is your goal? Establishing trust is vital, and because knowledge can alleviate fear, I encourage addressing all questions.
Then there is a testing stage to identify past events that are causing the current symptoms of imbalance. This testing involves a body-response bio-feedback technique called muscle testing. In many cases the causal event is obvious, in others it is hidden behind layers of time. Through the bio-feedback technique, memory is explored and peeled back in search of the limiting beliefs. Identifying the issues behind the old, damaging perceptions allows you to be an apt participant in the process of replacing the old with the new. By discovering the root cause of an imbalance (the negative perception) we are able to do something about it.
Having discovered and gathered this information, the next step is fascinating...involving a set of techniques that generate a whole-brain response by engaging the sensory pathways to your brain through hearing, touch and visualization. Carefully constructed statements are tailored to your specific issue. These statements, acting as de-constructing and re-constructing mechanisms, are spoken and focused upon repetitively. Specific methods are taught to help integrate the new perceptions into your thinking and somatic memory. Remarkably, in a relatively short period of time, damaging perceptions are replaced by new ones. Our thoughts, after all, tend to follow prescribed pathways. Perception Repatterning therapy creates new pathways.
A typical session is approximately 90 mins.
Sessions can be either in person, on the phone or via skype/video chat.
Frequently Asked Questions:
How is Perception Repatterning Technique different from regular psychotherapy?
While dialoguing is an integral aspect of the therapy, with PRT we also utilize bio-feedback as a means of connecting with the whole person. This allows for more direct communication and a somatic sense of knowing. Through this means the underlying cause is easily discovered and tools of change are applied, thereby empowering a move forward in the moment and with long-lasting results.
How often can I have sessions?
Based on the premise that it takes 21 days to create a new habit, sessions are rarely scheduled less than 3 weeks apart. It is during this interim that major changes begin to take place and the issues that seemed valid at the onset will have shifted. This is based upon the continuity of you making application of your uniquely designed program of affirmations.
How do I know when my affirmations are completed?
Generally, after processing continuously for 3 weeks, the affirmations are memorized and prove themselves to be valid, even sounding as if they have always been true. A quick check via bio-feedback can verify their completion.
Will I be ‘going backwards’ if I want to repeat my old affirmations?
Repetition is merely a means of bringing the affirmations to the forefront of conscious thought, much like reviewing a goal or a vow. Rather than being detrimental, it works as positive reinforcement to occasionally review past programs while focusing on the present.
Does a person ever ‘graduate’ from needing to use this technique?
Its been said that “uncovering memory and meaning are never over until life is over” and while there are a plethora of ways to change one’s mind on a matter, honing the skills and tools to do so can serve us all throughout our life. The goal of a PRT Practitioner is one of endowing and empowering recipients in self-mastery by using the PRT tools effectively for themselves, as often and as long as they choose.
Can PRT be useful for other than traumatic issues?
Yes. Any situation that creates a state of imbalance may become a subject for reframing and repatterning. It is noteworthy to realize that, like beauty, trauma is in the eye of the beholder. Depending upon an individual’s resiliency, fortitude and life experience, what may be traumatic to one may be merely a brush of the cheek to another. What is altered with PRT is the belief that was generated at the time of the ensuing event. If such a belief is detrimental, repatterning to a positive one can prove beneficial no matter how small or large the ‘trauma’ of origin.
Is PRT only useful for adults or may children use this method also?
Children of all ages have had success with the application of PRT. Children as young as 4 yrs. old have proved quite adept at creating their own statements. The bonus is that application time is often much shorter for children. In cases of very young children, a parent will say the affirmations with and for them.
